ENVIS (Environmental Information System) is a decentralized system with a network
of distributed subject oriented centres ensuring integration of national efforts in Environ-
mental Information Collection, Collation, Storage, Retrieval and Dissemination to all
concerned.
ENVIS is sponsored by the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) – Government of India (GoI), INDIA.
Presently, the ENVIS network consists of Focal Point at the Ministry of Environment and
Forests (MoEF) and ENVIS centres setup in different organizations / establishments in
INDIA in selected areas of environment. These Centres have been set up in the areas of
pollution control, toxic chemicals, central and offshore ecology, environmentally sound
and appropriate technology, bio-degradation of wastes and environment management etc.
The proposed project under EMCB – ENVIS CENTRE is to effectively bring out various
environmental management methodologies for the control of vectors and vector - borne
diseases through integrated system and disseminate to various end users like Post-
Graduate Students of Environmental Sciences, Health Officials, NGOs etc.
This is first of its kind to have a centre exclusively for information dissemination on
Bioinformatics-Vector Control and Vector - borne Diseases.
Objectives:
- Development of database on various ecological niches responsible for breeding of
vector species with special reference to water quality.
- Development of Database on ecological parameters affecting the dispersal and
distribution of the vector species.
- Organization of one or two day workshop on Role of Information System in Environ-
mental Management for the vector control and vector - borne diseases (EMVCVBD).
- Conducting Training program for the postgraduates in Environmental Sciences and
Computer Sciences, Social Sciences on the prospectus of Information Technology in
EMVCVBD.
