First Monkeypox Death in India: Patient dies in Kerala

 A 22-year-old youth, native of Punniyoor in Thrissur, Kerala who died in Thrissur on 30th July 2022 had tested positive for monkeypox in UAE as informed by state Health Minister Veena George on Sunday. This would be India’s first monkeypox death and the fourth one outside Africa.  As per reports, the patient had landed in Kerala on July 22 from the United Arab Emirates. This patient had no symptoms of Monkeypox, however he has been admitted to hospital with symptoms of encephalitis and fatigue. So far, India has reported as many as 5 monkeypox cases, of which 3 are from Kerala state.
