Dengue cases in Uttarakhand

 Dengue cases in Uttarakhand

With 23 more people from Haridwar being diagnosed with dengue, the total number of such cases has touched 113 in the state since July 1st. The highest number of cases have been reported from Haridwar (44) followed by state capital Dehradun (26), TehriGarhwal (24) Nainital (13) and Pauri (1). According to health department officials, lack of awareness and proper sanitation has contributed significantly to the spurt in dengue cases in Uttrakhand. Majority of cases in Haridwar have surfaced from Roorkee (16), PadliGujjar village (10), Rampur (2), Salimpur (2) and Teliwala (2). Chief medical officer Dr PremLal said, “We have conducted fogging and spraying of larvicides in over 4,000 houses. We are also spreading awareness among locals about ways to check the spread of the disease.” Similarly, Subhash Joshi, district malaria officer of Dehradun, said, “Eight persons in the district are suspected to have contracted the disease during their trips to Delhi and Bangalore.” State’s first dengue death was registered on August 29, wherein a 38-year-old man from Pauri succumbed to the mosquito borne virus in Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust, Jolly Grant.
