Nine chikungunya cases reported in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Nine cases of chikungunya have been reported in the city, showing that a lot needs to be done to curb the mosquito menace. In August, eight cases of the disease, which causes immense pain that lasts a lifetime, were recorded.
 
Chikungunya raises its head as dengue tally touches 1,701
Lucknow: After dengue, its chikungunya that has raised its head with as many as 67 cases of this vector borne disease being reported in Uttar Pradesh. The dengue total for state has crossed 1,700 mark. In Lucknow, 13 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 155. 
 
Chikungunya on rise, AIIMS tests 885 blood samples positive
Chikungunya is refusing to let go of its grip on Delhi with patients swamping the hospitals including AIIMS which itself has tested nearly 890 blood test samples positive for the vector-borne disease in the last two months. Several hospitals in the national capital are reporting increasing cases of chikungunya, including at Safdarjung Hospital where three deaths due to dengue and one due to malaria have taken place this season.
 
Chikungunya cases increase in Noida, Ghaziabad
The Ghaziabad district health department has confirmed a total of 80 cases of dengue and 82 chikungunya cases in the city. In the past two days itself, the department confirmed 28 cases of chikungunya and 18 cases of dengue. Meanwhile, in neighbouring Gautam Budh Nagar, the district health department confirmed 23 chikungunya cases in the past week itself, taking its total to 24. 
 
First Chikungunya Death Reported In Delhi
A 65-year-old man today died of chikungunya at a hospital in Delhi, in what could be the first fatality from this vector-borne disease in the national capital. The disease is considered generally as non-fatal.The victim, R Pandey, succumbed to the disease at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. 
 
Panchkula: Two test positive for chikungunya
Two women residents were tested positive for Chikungunya in Panchkula on Monday. This was days after the first case of Chikungunya was reported from Chandigarh. One of the women is a resident of Industrial Area, Chandigarh, and is aged around 40 years. She visited the hospital last week and was discharged after treatment. While the other woman is a resident of Sector 15, Panchkula, and was tested positive for Chikungunya on Monday. 
 
10 Die Of Chikungunya, Over 1,000 Cases Reported In Delhi
Five more deaths from chikungunya complications were reported today at a private hospital in Delhi, taking the total number of deaths due to the vector-borne disease in the national capital to 10.
 
All five deaths have taken place at Apollo Hospital and most of the victims were aged 80 or above.
 
"We have had five deaths in the past three weeks of patients with chikungunya fever, most of whom were elderly. 80-year-old Mahendra Singh from Ghaziabad died of chikungunya complications yesterday afternoon," hospital authorities said.
 
95 test positive for chikungunya, dengue, malaria in Faridabad
As many as 95 confirmed cases of malaria, dengue and chikungunya have been reported in the district so far. District Malaria Officer Dr Ram Bhagat said that a majority of the 8,000 blood samples collected by the department had been tested negative. Admitting a surge in cases of viral fever, he said only 15 patients had so far been found suffering from dengue. A total of 75 cases of malaria and 5 cases of chikungunya had been found positive at Civil Hospital here, he added.
 
200 cases of chikungunya alarm Ghaziabad
The numbers of dengue and chikungunya cases are rising in Ghaziabad every day. Till Saturday, 24 more confirmed cases of chikungunya have been reported, while five more patients tested positive for dengue.
According to health department officials, the total number of confirmed chikungunya cases reached 208 while confirmed dengue cases stood at 133 till Saturday. The number includes two suspected chikungunya death of Ghaziabad residents in Delhi hospitals. The chikungunya figure crossed the 100 mark earlier this week.
 
Five more deaths take Chikungunya toll to 18
Five more chikungunya deaths were reported in the city on Friday, taking the toll to 18 so far this season. 
 
The Delhi government has now termed chikungunya a “dangerous disease” and directed all the hospitals to report the cases to the municipal corporations.
 
Dengue, the other mosquito-borne disease which has hit the capital this season, has so far claimed 13 lives.
 
Number of Deaths In Chikungunya, Dengue Cases Rises To 30
Chikungunya and dengue continued to wreak havoc in Delhi with the number of deaths from the two vector-borne diseases climbing to 30 today even as the number of affected people crossed 2,800.
 
A 75-year-old man from south Delhi died due to chikungunya complications at a city hospital today, taking to 12 the number of fatalities due to the disease.
 
The number of deaths due to dengue rose to 18 with half of the fatalities reported from AIIMS even as the number of cases of this vector-borne disease crossed 1,100.
 
Chikungunya Outbreak In Delhi Worst In Last Six Years: Officials
The chikungunya outbreak in the national capital is the worst in the last six years. According to municipal data, over 1,000 people have been affected by this vector-borne disease till September 10. The last time the number of affected people reached three-figure mark was in 2011.
 
"In 2011, the total number of cases for chikungunya was 107, 6 (in 2012), 18 (2013), 8 (2014) and 64 last year. No deaths were recorded in these five years," a civic official told Press Trust of India.
 
As per estimates by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) which tabulates the data for vector-borne disease cases in the national capital, on behalf of all the civic bodies here, 1,057 confirmed cases of chikungunya have been reported till September 10. The National Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) has till September 11 put the number for chikungunya affected people at 1,724.
