Encephalitis in West Bengal

124 people die of Encephalitis in West Bengal, India.

In the wake of Encephalitis attack, as many as 124 lives have been claimed in the last week. Hospitals remained close on account of Eid and immediate medical help wasn’t provided. Encephalitis also claimed two lives in Cooch Behar district, West Bengal. The state health department officials said that with the four deaths, toll due to the disease climbed to 124.

Team of experts has been sent to North Bengal to review the situation. Central government is assisting the state government by providing vaccines and additional doctors, so that there wouldn’t be any more affected persons or deaths due to the disease.

Encephalitis centres have been set up in Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Birbhum, Midnapore and Malda districts of West Bengal and patients need not send samples to the cities, thus speeding up the treatment and recovery processes. Eight persons were additionally affected with encephalitis syndrome on July 30, 2014.
