Dengue and Japanese Encephalitis in, Jharkhand

Three cases of Japanese Encephalitis and a suspected case of Dengue have been found in Jharkhand. JE patients were identified as the residents of Baridih, Tamar and Sonari. However, the suspected dengue patient was a resident of Cable Town in East Singhbhum district.

Swine flu in Vadodara, Gujarat

The death of a 57-year-old man due to swine flu was reported in Vadodara, Gujarat. The patient was found infected with the H1N1 virus and was also suffering from multiple ailments including Austin's disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease for the last ten years.

 'Chinese pneumonia' in West Bengal, Kolkata

A rare strain of 'Chinese pneumonia' - mycoplasma pneumoniae has been detected in Kolkata in a 10-year-old girl with complaints of mild respiratory distress, fever and cough. "Mycoplasma pneumoniae are bacteria that primarily cause damage to the respiratory lining and can also involve other organs, like heart, kidneys and eyes, and cause severe illness. This is atypical pneumonia that contributes to about 5%-10% of all pneumonia cases. It affects children mostly above five years of age. The mode of transmission is droplets, like any other respiratory pathogens, and hence there is a need for appropriate measures like mask and hand hygiene.

 Kyasanur Forest Disease Case in Karnataka

The death of a 19-year-old girl on 8th January 2024 due to Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) was reported from Hosanagara taluk. The patient presented with symptoms of high fever and progressively developed brain fever and her haemoglobin level was 3.5 g/dl. She was tested positive for KFD on January 4th and died on 8th January 2024
