Disease Outbreaks of October month
Dengue cases in Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir
North Kashmir’s Baramulla district has witnessed a surge in the number of dengue cases in the month of October. A total of six and eight confirmed dengue cases were officially reported from government and private diagnostic centres respectively in Baramulla. There is a growing urgency to address the sudden rise of dengue cases and the need to prevent its further spread.
Dengue outbreak in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh
A total of 46 cases were reported in the first five days of October in the city of Visakhapatnam.
The number of dengue cases declined in July and August this year and increased in September
and recorded 46 cases in the first five days of October this year in various Zones of Greater
Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). Dengue infection is rampant in Rambilli,
Nathavalasa, and Cheedikada mandals in the Anakapalli district.
Chikungunya outbreak in Haryana
A total of 321chikungunya cases were recorded in 2023 till October in the state of Haryana as
there was lower exposure to the infection in the past seven years. In 2022, Haryana reported 242
cases, 21 cases in 2021, 14 in 2020, 0 in 2019, 3 in 2018 and 6 in 2017. In 2023, the most
affected districts in Haryana are Yamunanagar which has reported 281 cases followed by
Panchkula (29), Sirsa (4), Panipat (3) and Ambala (1).
Dengue cases in Churachandpur district, Manipur
A total of 26 positive dengue cases have been reported at Churachandpur district hospital. Two
cases were recorded in February, two in July, four in August, eight in September, and ten in
October. A total of 1,204 cases were recorded in the state of Manipur from January through
October, with Imphal West having the most instances (828). To prevent the spread of dengue, the
Churachandpur District Malaria Department has begun fogging measures in areas where dengue
cases have been found, including Singseng, Tuibong, DM. Veng, Rengkai, Zomi Colony, and
New Lamka in Churanchandpur
.
Swine flu outbreak in Nagpur, Maharashtra
A total of 51 cases of swine flu; have been reported in Nagpur from January to October 2023.
And a total of 14 swine flu suspected death cases were reported. Out of the total number of
deaths, 5 deaths are in the age group of 40 to 60 years and 5 dead patients are above the age of
60. Among the deceased are 5 female and 5 male patients.
Dengue outbreak in Delhi
Dengue cases are rising alarmingly in Delhi this year, with nearly 5,000 cases (4,965) reported
till October 21, 2023. The D2 strain is the dominant strain in the country currently. In the 2nd
week of October 2023, Delhi reported a total of 525 cases. The highest number of cases (57)
were reported from the South district. Apart from this, a total of 146 cases reported in Delhi were
infections acquired from other states.
