ZIKA virus case in Mumbai

The first case of Zika virus case has been reported in the M-West ward of Chembur, Mumbai.

The identified patient is a 79-year-old man who suffered from fever, cough, and stuffy nose from

19 th July 2023. The patient has now recovered and was discharged on 2 nd August 2023. On

contact tracing, no other positive patient has been identified. Previously, very few cases of Zika

virus have been reported in India. In 2021, a Zika virus infection was confirmed in a 24-year-old

pregnant woman, resident of Kerala. In the same year, a 50-year-old woman from Maharashtra’s

Belsar tested positive. In 2022, a 7-year-old female student in Zai, Talasari was diagnosed with

Zika virus.
