First case of Zika and Japanese Encephalitis in Pune
The first case of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) was confirmed in Pune after a four-year-old boy
from Wadgaonsheri was tested positive for JE on 1 st December 2022. The child exhibited
symptoms like fever, headache, fits and weakness. The blood samples of the child along with the
samples of seven household contacts and 16 neighbors have been sent to NIV for further testing.
Just two days after the city reported its first case of JE, the first case of Zika is also reported,
wherein a 67-year-old man from Bavdhan has tested positive for the Zika virus. The patient
complained of fever, cough, joint pain and fatigue.
 
First case of Zika in Karnataka
The first confirmed case of Zika virus in Karnataka has emerged on December 8 th , 2022. A five-
year-old girl from Raichur district was infected with the Zika virus and has tested positive. It
came to light when the serum was subjected to Dengue and Chikungunya test.
