 Dengue cases in Andhra Pradesh

Dengue cases are increasing in the state of Andhra Pradesh since last three months. In July, 379 dengue cases were reported however, the number reached to 1,412 in September 2022. The highest number of 74 dengue cases was recorded in Visakhapatnam district in July followed by 50 cases in Parvathipuram Manyam district. In August, the highest number of 209 dengue cases were reported from Visakhapatnam, 69 in Vizianagaram, 64 in Parvathipuram Manyam districts. In September, 260 cases were registered in Visakhapatnam, followed by 176 cases in East Godavari, 107 cases in Tirupati, 96 cases in Kakinada, 87 cases in Annamayya district, 86 cases in Vizianagaram, 66 cases in Parvathipuram Manyam, 65 in Bapatla, 52 cases in Anakapalli.


Suspected monkeypox cases in Uri, Baramulla district, Kashmir

Two suspected cases of monkeypox have been detected in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on 10th October 2022. Both suspected patients are from Dazna Lachipora area of Uri. The suspected patients have developed fever and lesions resembling monkeypox or chickenpox on their skin. The patients have developed ‘Maculopapular rash’ over the body, mostly on the face & abdomen.


COVID variants Omicron BF.7 and BQ.1 strain found in India

The latest subvariant of the Omicron variant BF.7, known as the ‘Omicron Spawn’ has been found in India as detected by the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center. World Health Organization released a warning against the highly infectious BF.7, citing it would become a new dominant variant. The symptoms of this variant are typically the same as before, with body pains are predominant one. People carrying the variant can spread the virus, being asymptomatic themselves. The first case of Omicron’s BQ.1 sub-variant was detected in India on 17th October 2022 in a patient sample from Pune. BQ.1 is a descendant of Omicron's BA.5 strain.
