Scrub typhus infection in Kolkata, West Bengal
More than 10 cases of scrub typhus infection have been reported in July, 2022 in West Bengal. The disease is spread among people through the bites of infected chiggers (larval mites). Murshidabad, Bankura, Birbhum, Hooghly and East Midnapore were the districts where the maximum number of scrub typhus cases had been reported.
Dengue outbreak in Ernakulam district, Kerala
About 59 confirmed and 2,269 suspected cases of Dengue have been reported since January 2022 in Ernakulam district. Seven deaths due to dengue fever have been reported between May and July in Kerala’s Ernakulam district.
Japanese Encephalitis in Kamrup district, Assam
82 confirmed cases and at least eight deaths of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) have been reported in Assam in the month of July 2022. The National Health Mission (NHM) has also issued a standard operating procedure and guidelines to tackle the situation arising with the outbreak of the JE. At least 40 deaths were reported in Assam due to Japanese Encephalitis in the year 2021.
Monkeypox cases in Kerala
The first case of Monkeypox in India was confirmed from Kollam district of Kerala state on July 13, 2022. A 35-year-old man who returned from the UAE has tested positive for monkeypox in Kerala. However, the second case of Monkeypox was reported on 18th July 2022 from Kannur district of Kerala. A 31-year-old Kannur native was infected who had returned from Dubai on July 13, 2022.
