Dengue and Flu cases in Telangana and Jharkhand

Flu, dengue on the rise as Covid-19 curbs ease, in Hyderabad, Telangana

Seasonal flu is on the rise again now unlike last year when cases were at the bare minimum due to lockdown and Covid-appropriate behaviour. Hospitals are seeing a gradual increase in mild fever cases as well as food, water and vector-borne diseases, especially dengue, often with atypical symptoms. “While there was a significant drop in these cases last year, an increase in cases is observed with roughly 8-10 cases of flu and dengue in a day. Dengue cases are increasing along with opening of construction and other activities as mosquitoes get more breeding grounds. Although the situation is not alarming currently, 35-40 cases are being seen daily, added Dr Shafi P, infectious diseases specialist. Dr Nandana Jasthi, senior consultant physician, Medicover Hospitals group, said that they were seeing around 50 dengue patients in a week of which 10 required admission due to low platelet count.

Dengue claims one life in Seraikela district, Jharkhand

A 25-year-old woman in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district died of dengue while an 18-year-old girl tested positive for the mosquito-borne disease. The district surveillance officer of SeraikelaKharsawan, Jhujhar Majhi, said the deceased patient was tested positive for dengue at the Tata Main Hospital (TMH) where she was undergoing treatment since July 6. As an immediate measure, fogging and spraying of larvicide and bleaching power was done at the house of the deceased and in the vicinity. Besides, door-to-door surveillance has been launched to detect potential breeding ground of mosquitoes and destroy them,” Majhi said. In Steel City, an 18-year-old girl, who is a resident of ECC flats in Kadma, was diagnosed with dengue and is undergoing treatment at TMH, said East Singhbhum district additional chief medical officer, Sahir Pall.
