Zika cases rises to 51 in Kerala, India:

State Health Minister Veena George said that Kerala has reported a total of 51 Zika cases in the state so far. The Health Department of Kerala has already ramped up testing measures for this disease, and received thousands of testing kits from the National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV), Pune. The virus was confirmed by tests conducted at the virology lab located in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram.

The local bodies in the district level was directed to perform an all-out effort to eradicate the mosquito population to curb the spread of the disease. Majority of the cases are being reported from the Anayara cluster, where the district administration has launched a massive source reduction programme and other vector control operations.
