Novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) global situation
The Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) originating from Wuhan, China, has now spread to 27 countries and territories worldwide, with 17,387 confirmed cases and 362 deaths as of February 3, 2020. A death of a 44 year-old man in the Philippines, reported on February 2, marks the first death occurring outside of China. About 150 cases have been confirmed in at least 23 other countries. Transmission Rate (Ro) estimated for 2019-nCoV infected is 3–4 cases newly infected from one case. Case Fatality Rate (CFR) very early estimate is 2% (2 deaths for every 100 cases). Incubation period of a person infected with corona virus is 2-14 days. Average incubation period observed in a study was 5.2 days. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported an incubation period for 2019-nCoV between 2 and 10 days. China’s National Health Commission (NHC) had initially estimated an incubation period from 10 to 14 days. The United States' CDC estimates the incubation period for 2019-nCoV to be between 2 and 14 days, from nine patients revealed it to be closely related to two. The study, published in the Lancet, suggests that an animal sold at a market in Wuhan could have the virus from bats and passed it to humans. The World Health Organization on Thursday declared the outbreak a global health emergency.
