Swine flu in Nashik

 Swine flu in Nashik

The Nashik civil hospital has received 18 swine flu patients so far this month. The number is the highest in any month this year and experts blame the present weather conditions — which are conducive to the growth and spread of the swine flu virus.

The senior medical official revealed that there are four suspected swine flu patients in the hospital’s swine flu ward. Three of these are from Satpur, Gangapur Road, Sinnar and Wani. In January, the isolation ward had received five swine flu patients, followed by eight each in February and March, seven in April and one in May and July.

District health officials added that the months of August and September are crucial and favourable for the growth and spread of swine flu. During last year, the district has only one patient of swine flu in January and four in July. However, in August, 50 swine flu cases were recorded in the district, followed by 258 and 158 in September and October respectively. By November, the number had dropped to 14. In December 2018, there were seven cases. By the end of last year, the district health administration had registered 493 swine flu patients and 76 deaths. Against the backdrop of the heavy rainfall in Nashik district this year and the existing weather conditions, doctors are asking people to take the utmost care against contracting the virus. Patients who have already been diagnosed with swine flu should avoid meeting other people, take rest and consume liquid food.
