Dengue and chikungunya are fast spreading in the state capital. According to Patna civil surgeon office, two cases of chikungunya and three cases of dengue were reported on Wednesday. With this, total 158 cases of dengue have been reported in Patna district so far.

Vector-borne disease dengue has affected more than 27,000 people and claimed 60 lives across the country while over 12,000 cases of chikungunya have been reported till last month. According to provisional figures put by National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), around 27,879 cases of dengue have been reported all over the country and the disease has claimed 60 lives till August 31.With over 5,000 affected cases in each of them, West Bengal, Odisha and Kerela have maximum number of dengue cases. -hile West Bengal has reported 5,129 cases, with 22 deaths; in Odisha, the disease has affected 5,183 people and claimed nine lives.

Two more people died of chikungunya in Delhi on Tuesday, taking the toll from the mosquito-borne disease to three. Doctors at Sir Ganga Ram hospital confirmed the death of a 65-year-old man due to chikungunya, which has assumed epidemic proportions in the city. The viral disease is usually non-fatal but hospitals say they are getting many patients with severe manifestation of the illness, including brain infections.

The Malaria Wing of Health Department of Chandigarh Administration has beefed up field activities for Prevention and Control of Dengue. “The major source of breeding has been found to be coolers and house containers. It was also observed during the field analysis that the cases of dengue are isolated cases and there is no clustering. This indicates that there is no or very little local transmission,” an official release said. Daily fumigation is also being carried out along with field activities which include checking of breeding sources like coolers, containers, tyres and other sources.

With one more patient being confirmed afflicted with the dengue on Tuesday, total number of dengue patients rose to 67 this year. However, the number is less than the previous year in the corresponding period. With receding monsoon, the deadly mosquito is spreading its tentacles in the city and neighboring areas. As dengue causing mosquito - Aedes Aegypti spawns in fresh water and bites in day time, health department officials have issued an advisory. People should keep their homes neat and tidy, water should not be left logging in tyres and drums.

When dengue became a major health problem in Singapore in the 1960s, the state went after dengue-carrying mosquitoes with characteristic zeal. Breeding areas were eliminated, outbreaks were mapped, and citizens were educated. By 1975, dengue had virtually vanished…..

The Dengue cases have peaked in the capital and till now, the disease has killed over 25 lives and more than 3,000 have got infected. Hospitals in Delhi are getting swarmed with dengue and chikungunya cases. 

Last year, nearly 5,982 cases were testified from Delhi hospitals till September 28. According to the doctors, the outbreak of the disease was the most horrific one. Only 98 cases were recorded till this time in 2014.
